A few years ago, I made a YouTube channel on a whim to upload videos of live shows. It's still in existence, and I still use it for the same reason now, and there's some end of year videos and university videos on there too. A while after that I had a channel that I created to help me play guitar. I played guitar for a month and documented my progress every day. I rarely ever spoke to the camera but one day a girl in my class at school told me she had found the channel. That night I deleted it out of sheer embarrassment, I'd never made it for people to find and I was horrified. Then I had another channel that I used just for talking about random things, and answering all of those tag videos that floated around on Tumblr and YouTube at the time. I later deleted that, too. The point of this post is to actually let you know about a channel my friend Tash and I created back in 2010, appropriately named tashandbekka.
tashandbekka was created one day out of sheer boredom. We had been let home from school early and our first video was of us making an email address in order to sign up to YouTube. We also dissected music videos that were on TV at the time while creating the account too. It wasn't a great video and now it's private, but the bloopers are online and it was a lot of fun. We started making the videos more regularly and for some unknown reason one became pretty popular, which is so funny and cringe-worthy to look back on. We stopped uploading to the channel two and a half years ago for multiple reasons, but we never deleted it.
This year I knew that I wanted to start documenting things via videos, and I hadn't really decided whether that would just be footage accompanied by music, or whether I would vlog again. After chatting to Tash and knowing how much she was wanting to buy a camera and get back to creating stuff, we decided to relaunch the channel. Many things have happened in the two and a half years, and so our first video which you can see below, explained all of that. And now every other Thursday I'll be uploading a video of whatever I fancy.
I'm really excited to get back into the YouTube world. It's more accepted now to upload videos of yourself to the internet these days than it was a mere three years ago, but I can guarantee there will still be people who laugh at us for it, or think it's stupid, but that's okay. I think three years ago I couldn't deal with that, but this time around I'm creating the videos for me - and if people watch them that's really amazing, and if they don't that's still pretty okay too. Check out our "WE GOT OLD" video below, and if you're American I'm sorry there's a chance you might not be able to understand us. We're from Newcastle, that means we're #geordies and that means our accents are pretty tough.
Do let me know if you watch it. Also, I've developed a fun little game: no matter where you pause the video on my footage I'm pulling a really horrendous face. You should try it, it's fun.
