I've eventually got round to telling you all about my quick weekend break to Wolverhampton. It was Friday afternoon and my cousin Kathryn and I set out on our four and a half hour drive. The drive itself was pretty easy-going. We listened to a Kings Of Leon CD on repeat for about three hours, this was unintentional, and we got stuck in traffic which added an hour and a half onto our journey. We stopped at a service station, swapped the CD to Fall Out Boy's 'Save Rock and Roll' and ended up in a supermarket car park frantically ringing our cousin Barry who we were going to visit. Greetings ensued and after a quick pit-stop for some milk, we got settled in, semi unpacked and starting gossiping like a bunch of people who hadn't seen each other for years (rest assured, it had only been a matter of weeks).
Once that was all sorted, we decided it would be a grand idea to toast in our honour of getting together. The alcohol was cracked open and a playlist of the most recent tunes circled the room through the TV speakers. We got fish and chips for tea and even though the people upstairs were having a party, we decided to rest up fairly early for the next day.
Saturday morning arrived and Barry made it clear that he doesn't rush on weekends, and that was fine by me. By the time we got ourselves sorted and into the car, it wasn't long before we were stuck behind a major accident. We ended up arriving in Birmingham two hours later than we planned. Our first stop was the Bullring, which is Birmingham's central shopping centre and it is absolutely huge. We hit the clothes shops first, and I was ridiculously excited that they had a Forever 21 store! We then went to Selfridges and to be honest we never really left. I can't get over the size of Selfridges or how much it actually stocks - including a Primark in the clothing part which I thought was odd. Once we hit the food mall of Selfridges we were there for a couple of hours, gawping at all the sweets, alcohol and cakes they had on offer. I had my first macaroon too and can thankfully say I am a fan.
Our original plan had been to return to Barry's to shower and get ready, and head back into Birmingham to a place called the Mailbox for food. We were then gonna hit the town but because it's us, that didn't end up happening. By the time we got home and opened more alcohol, it ended up being too late for us all to get nicely dressed up and hop in a taxi to Birmingham, so we settled on the pub across the road. When we got there it was 10pm so they had stopped serving food, whoops, so we just decided to order more drinks instead. We ended up heading back to Barry's ordering a takeaway and staying up until 5 in the morning. Standard.
It was nice to spend some time with just my cousins minus the rest of our family. We used to spend a lot of time together when we were younger, but then that sort of stopped happening. It's nice to know we're strengthening our relationships with one another again, and I know that there will be many more trips planned in the future.

Those macaroons look delicious! :-) x
