Exploring: Northumberlandia

On the quest to improve my photography skills, my Dad and I decided to have a scout around and see if we could find any new places to take photographs. We came across this place called Northumberlandia, which is only 20 minutes away from where we live. I had never even heard of the place before, so we decided to go out for a few hours and see what it was all about.

Northumberlandia is basically a human landform sculpture of a reclining lady, which is made of 1.5 million tonnes of rock, clay and soil. She is 100 feet high and a quarter of a mile long. Though I'm not really sure why it exists, it's pretty cool that it's a piece of public art and that it's free. There really isn't much there, and the walk to the top probably takes around 15 minutes if that's all you're going for, but it does offer some amazing views, including the Shotton Surface mine (which is pretty popular apparently).

Sometimes it's nice to get out just for a few hours or so, and I'm still not over the fact that it's less than half an hour away from my house. For not knowing it existed, it was a pretty good day out and I learned a lot about my camera. The public definitely create some weird pieces of art though, right?
