Exploring: Edinburgh

I live fairly close to Scotland but I'd never been once in my twenty years until this past weekend. After a 6am wake up call and an hour and a half train journey, my friend Penner and I found ourselves among the people of Edinburgh at 9am on a Saturday morning. The purpose of our trip? To spend the majority of the day at Edinburgh Zoo, but since we arrived pretty early we figured we'd do a bit of exploring first.

Penner has been to Edinburgh a bunch of times, so he was in charge of directions (probably just as well, I still get lost in my own city far more than I'd like to admit). I grasped the importance of Princes Street straight away (basically one street that runs for miles flooded with shops). We tended to stick to that because it made the most sense. I pretty much just wandered around all morning and afternoon once we were back from the zoo uttering the words "Edinburgh is just too pretty," because I really think it is.

Having never been before I wasn't sure what to expect. Some of the architecture was amazing and the whole city seemed so cultural. I really fell in love with it and I can't wait to go back and explore it properly. A lot of the scenery seemed so dream like, so I tried to recreate it in the photos below. I'll be doing another post all about my Zoo adventures, but for now I'll leave you with these.

Have you ever been to Scotland before?

  3. I really want to go to Edinburgh! I think the train is quite quick from London as well. No excuses! I've been to rural scotland, but I was rather young so don't remember much xx

  4. Your photographs are incredible! I've never been to Edinburgh but I am so anxious to visit the city. It looks like a dream, exactly the type of open, green and cloudy place I'd like to live in, with architecture that tells a story.

I don't want to sound pretentious but I just really like these photos.

    (Survey completed and submitted)!

  5. Love, love, love Edinburgh! We go there every year for a week for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and always try and pack as many shows in as possible. We've even discussed moving there (I just need to convince my other half that it's not actually that cold!). :-) x
