I've only been going from the blogging world for a week and I feel like so much has happened in my life and in everyone else's. I always forget how hard it is throwing yourself back into a new routine and trying to keep up with everything else you were already doing, but I'm slowly getting there. I was going to make separate posts about all of the things I've been getting up too, but quite honestly this week has been an absolute roller coaster of a ride and I just haven't had the time. So I decided to write like a madwoman and tell you all what I've been up to.
In The Audience:
- As you may or may not know my In The Audience feature is an unprofessional review section about bands that I've seen live as a fan rather than a critic. This means they tend to be my favourite acts, and usually render me without many words.
Ellie Goulding: I think Ellie Goulding is my favourite artist. She seems like a very genuine person and I think that translates well in her music. This was the fourth time I'd seen her live, and somehow she managed to top the previous three. Having arrived at the venue early, Caitlin and I decided to go to the pub for a drink (just coke's this time around), and I spotted Ellie Goulding out of the window - but by the time we would have made it down the flight of stairs, she would have been well gone. We then met Penner and queued for an hour so. I used to be a skilled queuer who would stand outside for hours in any weather, but lately I end up keeping warming in the nearest establishment and popping along for the doors opening. When I really love an artist I refuse to be anywhere besides the barrier, and I was happy with my barrier spot at the far right when we were let into the venue. I honestly can't put into words how incredible her performance was, and it really did leave me speechless afterwards. I'm still not over it, and if I ever do get over it, maybe I'll write an actual review. One that makes sense, and talks about the songs she played rather than just a string of sentences that I'm hoping will do for now.
Tonight Alive: I had such an ordeal trying to get this ticket it was unbelievable. On the way back from Uni a friend called to say she had found me a ticket but it would require me to get off the train, hop onto a bus, and then get the bus back and another train home. While I went off on my little adventure to collect the ticket, a whole bottle of water spilled onto me and inside my bag, which proceeded to drip all over the train floor; making it look like I had wet myself. It was hectic and messy and all in all I guess it was worth it. The gig itself was pretty good, but it could have been a lot better. I struggled to see for a large portion of it (being 5ft3, this is not surprising), and the audio levels weren't as high as they should of been. Seen better and heard worse, that sums it up really.
Business:
Venture Mag: As you may remember from one of my previous posts, I've been hard at work on Venture's October issue, and it finally launched on Friday. It's always like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders when I put an issue out, and I'm so incredibly proud of this one. It's the most complex design we have ever done, and has the strongest content too. It's pretty much a knock-out, and I hope other people like it as much as the team do. You can see it here.
Life:
After finishing my day at uni on Wednesday, and popping back on Thursday for a half an hour meeting, my parents and I went to pick up my uncle from the airport. He lives in Germany and came over to surprise my Aunty as it was her 60th birthday this weekend. We all went out on Saturday for a meal and a few (too many) drinks. It's always nice to celebrate things with family I think. Especially those that I don't see a lot of.
Now I've managed to find a spare half an hour to write this, and I'll be answering some emails and finding a few bands to write about before I call it a night and dive right back into season 5 of Gossip Girl. I've never seen it before, so sssh no spoilers! I hope you've all had a wonderful week.
I hope you've had a great week, it sounds jam packed! That drink is something to behold, the size and colour is crazy! xxx
