Weekly Favourites #3

Category: Music

Song: Jessie J has released her sophomore album 'Alive' since my last weekly favourites. In all honesty I didn't love every single track on her debut, but I did become a pretty big fan after its release. I wasn't sure what to make of 'Alive', so I bought it with blind faith. I love it, deep down I think I knew I would. It is such a well rounded, power-stricken, emotionally invested album and it was hard to pick just one song. The song I seem to be playing the most though is "Magnetic". The chorus ignites and infectious spark of driven energy that makes me not want to stop dancing or singing, or fighting for what I'm after. I can't wait to see her live at the end of the month.

Music Video: Zedd ft. Hayley Williams - "Stay The Night". When this song came out I was confused because EDM producers don't usually collaborate with female pop-rock artists, but I was glad it happened. I'm a big fan of both Zedd and Paramore, and although I found their collab odd, I knew the result would be good. I was right, but the breakdown is lacking in my opinion. Despite that, I only just recently saw the video and it is visually stunning. I love the way Hayley is surrounded by lights which is reminiscent of the bands "Ignorance" days, and the constant jump cuts to the piano playing are great. The contemporary dance is breath taking, and the last thing I expected from what could be a potential club track.

Venture Mag: I would love to say I've done a bunch of things since my last check-in, but I'd be lying. I'm back to early morning grinds and early nights, trying to make sure I get enough sleep to tackle the  following day. Scheduled posts and spreadsheets have helped me keep my up to date with my blog while my music website survives on lists. I release a monthly music magazine each month, and since I got back home from Florida I've been behind, releasing them at the end of the month as opposed to the beginning or the middle. I set myself a target of getting our October issue released by the 11th, and so I've spent the past four days in my house, hunched over a desk or lounged across the sofa working on it. I even passed up on going for drinks so I could get more of it done. WHO AM I? It's coming together though, and I'm feeling confident about it.

Blogger: My favourite blogger this week is Rosie who blogs over at aroiseoutlook.com. I am always wary of blogs that described themselves as "Fashion and Lifestyle blogs", because most of the time it's more fashion than anything else. It's not that I have anything against fashion bloggers, I'm just not the biggest fashion follower and so I don't click with their posts. However Rosie combines her quirky style (which I love), with in-depth lifestyle posts and I think that makes so much more difference. I don't shy away from her fashion posts, I tend to want to read them just as much as her lifestyle posts. She really does do the Fashion and Lifestyle combo well, and with a really good writing style and pretty pictures for bonus points. My favourite posts she has written lately are Show Pony and Staying In.

Tumblr: Tumblr is the best for pictures and inspiring quotes. It's rare I find a quote that's refreshingly honest and not necessarily positive, but this week I did. I'll leave you with this, because it really made me think:

"If I cut you off, chances are, you handed me the scissors."

What have you been loving this week?

P.s I've created a survey to help me with a big project at university and be ever so grateful if you could fill it out and/or share it with anyone who might take part. Let me know if you do it, and I'll give you a virtual high five!
