Thanksgiving: Five Reasons Why I'm Thankful For Blogging

Via A Beautiful Mess.

In the UK we don't really celebrate Thanksgiving, but I thought I'd do my own take on a Thanksgiving post in the form of: "Why I'm Thankful For Blogging." I always think it's important to remember where you came from, and remember why you started things. This is a reminder of why I'm thankful that I started blogging. There are lots of reasons, but these are just my top five.

ONE: It's a creative outlet. I often have so many thoughts buzzing around in my head I sometimes feel like my brain is going to explode. Twitter I use for professional use more than anything, and Tumblr is a mixture of riddles and photos, but blogging is a place where I can, "intellectually", shall we say, share my thoughts and feelings. It's nice to be free of my thoughts sometimes, to get them typed up and into a semi-sense making post. I blog for myself, and that's why it's more rewarding when people share their experiences with me via comments and what not.

TWO: It makes me inspired. I got into blogging in this format as we know it today, because I was so inspired by the content that I had seen on other peoples blogs. It may sound silly, but being a part of the blogging community makes me feel more inclined to try other things. I'm much more open and willing to try new things, as well as making time for the little things and remembering how good they can be. I honestly think that is a result of being a part of this community, because I sometimes think we can slip into day to day routines without taking anything from our days.

THREE: The people. Unlike many other bloggers that I follow, I wouldn't say I've made any solid friendships through blogging, but that doesn't mean to say that I don't value the people who read my blog or their opinions. I love talking to new people and creating relationships. I feel like for the most part, bloggers are very supportive and that can be difficult to find in a network of people, but it's definitely cemented here.

FOUR: I've grown and I've learned. There are two things that I believe humans should continue to do, and that is learn and that is grow. They go hand in hand with one another. As you grow you learn, and as you learn you grow. Through blogging I have been able to learn a wealth of new skills that I didn't even know I had until I sat down and thought about it. Learning has allowed me to keep growing as a person, and that's something I really appreciate.

FIVE: Documentation. Like I said in point one, I blog for myself. If anyone else reads along, that's a huge bonus. I've fallen into the traps of trying to create things that I thought people would want to read, but actually they didn't, and most of the time I didn't want to write it. When I started this blog I knew it would be different, and for the most part it has been. I've blogged about my life and my adventures, like an online diary. Documentation is important to me, I always look back to the past almost as much as I look to the future. Though I am not one of those people who forgets the importance of the presence, I just like the idea of having proof of my life that I can trace back. Remembering is important.

As you can see I have a lot to thank blogging for. This probably all sounds weird to people who don't blog (and maybe people who do), but blogging is such a fun thing for me to do, and I'm really glad that there is a space like this on the internet that I can call my own. So thank you blogging, for coming into my life and making yourself at home. I'm really glad you're around, and as you can see from the above list I have many reasons to be thankful for your existence. Though this is very cheesy, I do believe that to some extent you have made me a better person. You have impacted my life, and though I don't feel like it has been incredibly monumental right now, I appreciate the things I have learned so far, and hopefully I will continue to learn a lot more, and also a lot more about myself.

What are you thankful for?
